Cricket Coaching in St Lucia
A must for any cricket enthusiast, volunteer as a cricket coach in the Caribbean
Project Description
Volunteering as a cricket coach in the Caribbean is sure to be a once in a lifetime experience. Cricket is, unsurprisingly, one of the most popular sports in St Lucia, and throughout the West Indies is played and supported with a wonderful passion.
Our cricket projects are based in the North of the island. We work with the St Lucia Women’s National team, Under 19’s National team, Castries Comprehensive and Marchard Combined. We also work with two academies, coaching some of the most exciting young talent on the island in The Gros Islet Academy and the 7th day Academy.

Aims and Objectives
The aim of our projects is to give children access to sport. As a volunteer coach you will be working with local cricket clubs, schools and community groups to help encourage children to take part and thrive. We aren’t looking to create the next Darren Sammy, although we are always keen to see improvements, we focus on the key life-skills such as leadership, teamwork and management. We want children from disadvantaged backgrounds to have a fun and safe environment to play the sport they love.
Sport can be a wonderful tool for change, helping to reduce gang culture, encourage children to access education and the obvious health benefits. We also look to address social and health-related issues facing these young athletes, such as those regarding crime and what can be seen as generally acceptable manners.
We stress to the children the importance of their education, the doors that can open for them if they stay in school and work hard to achieve good grades. Sport and certainly Cricket is simply a great tool for getting through to the kids improving on their education.
Schedule
Your timetable as a volunteer coach will vary on when you volunteer, but in general you will having sessions during the week with weekends free to explore St Lucia. Daily sessions tend to run from 13:00 to 15:00, which can then be followed by an after school session until around 17:00. Occasionally they will be senior or club training which tends to run from 17:00 until dark.
Program participant criteria
To volunteer as a coach you must be a minimum of 18 years old. There is no maximum age and we welcome everyone who is passionate to help. But our volunteers do tend on average to be aged 18 to 25.
No coaching qualifications are required, just a desire to help others. Obviously a background in the sport you wish to coach is always helpful (and recommended). We try to tailor your coaching to your ability. If you are an experienced and confident coach then we can work to have you test your skills with a senior club team, or if you are just starting out you can be more involved with the schools program.

I would definitely recommend this to all the sports fanatics out there! Range of sports on offer, I did cricket and got the chance to work in some of the best facilities in the country! Both Joel and Pagey were extremely welcoming and a good laugh! See you next year boys!
